An Intervention for your Loved One

If you know someone who suffers from drug or alcohol addiction, you may be considering an intervention . Although you may have heard that this is a great option, most people don’t quite know what it is. Simply put, an intervention is a meeting between the addicted person, their close family and friends and usually an addiction worker. The meeting is designed to help the user realize the extent that their use is affecting those around them as well as showing them that there is help available. It is important to note that most addicts are not well receiving of an intervention at first and may lash out at those they love.

Always remember that they are not mad at you but are stuck in an addiction that is curtailing their normal pattern of behaviour. With a drug addiction such as crystal meth the person may become very irritable and sometimes violent. That is why it is important to have a qualified counselor on hand in case things get out of hand. It is always important to stress to the addict that you are doing this out of love for them and are certainly not out to harm them in any way. If an intervention is done correctly and in the right environment it can actually serve to save the person’s life.
