How to Pay for the Cooking Institute of Chicago
Posted by OBA on 04/18/08 in Finance

You want to attend a good cooking school such as the Cooking Institute of Chicago. Unfortunately, you’re not made of money and tuition isn’t cheap. How can you scrape together the funds to pay for this education so that you can move forward into a career in the restaurant industry?
Your best bet is to work with financial aid. Most culinary schools (including this one, Boston Culinary Arts and other leading institutions in the business) have financial aid programs specifically set up to assist the students attending their schools. If you can get a loan through the school then you’ll have assistance on your campus to work out the details of repaying the loan.
If you can’t get financial aid or you don’t qualify for enough of it, you may want to look into a private loan. A loan by your bank, your parents or a mentor in the industry can pay your way through school until you’re working full-time and are able to pay it back. If you’re having trouble getting a private loan, remember that the first step is to ask. You’d be surprised how many people in your life might be willing to help you out.
If worse comes to worst and you can’t find any other way to pay for school, you can use a combination of credit cards and part-time work to pay the bills until school is done. It’s a tight position to be in but it’s a way to realize your career dreams.
