What If I Don’t Like Culinary School?
Posted by OBA on 06/16/08 in Culinary Arts
Imagine that you decided to take a chance on a dream and forego a traditional college education in favor of going to one of the nation’s culinary arts institutes. What if you get there and you find out that you actually don’t really like going to culinary school? It’s a tough experience to deal with but it’s not something that has to shatter your world.
The first thing that you need to do in this situation is to ask yourself if you’re just going through a period of adjustment. Oftentimes when we start something new, we don’t like it because it doesn’t meet all of our expectations. After a period of time, we get used to the situation and come to like it. You should consider whether this is the case.
If you really just don’t like the program, ask yourself if it’s the school that you don’t like or if you’re just not really as interested in the culinary arts as you thought. If the problem is the school (or just a particular instructor) then all you need to do is find the place of instruction that is right for you. If it’s the program as a whole, you’ll need to start thinking about what types of schools might interest you more.
