Vegans and Culinary Arts Training in Florida

There is a large percentage of people in the nation who are interested in healthy vegan eating. Considering the number of vegan restaurants that have popped up over the years, it’s no shock that some of the nation’s best chefs cook an all-vegan menu. However, any chef that attends culinary school is probably going to have to cook with meat. That’s a problem for some people who want to learn the skills of making it as a culinary artist without having to compromise their vegan principles.

Students who are interested in getting a culinary education that isn’t going to require them to cook meat have a few options:

  • Consider the location of your school. If you’re planning on doing your culinary arts training in Florida where the menus are all meat-and-potatoes, you might want to consider vegan-friendly location alternatives such as Portland culinary arts programs.
  • Discuss the issue with administrators before agreeing to attend the school. Being upfront can reduce the problems you’ll face in the classroom.
  • Attend a school that has a protocol for this problem. You may find that professors at Le Cordon Bleu Las Vegas and other well-known schools are used to this issue and can accommodate you.

In the end, you may find that you have to compromise a little bit during your training. Just keep in mind that you’re learning important skills which will lead to working in your own restaurant one day. When you do, you can opt to cook only those things that you’re comfortable eating.

Hm… maybe you wanted to consider training which can provide on-site training or attachment to restaurants. This will really give you practical experience which are not available in classroom.
