Changing Majors at a Photography School
Posted by OBA on 02/16/08 in Bachelor Degrees
Most college students don’t end up getting a degree in the first field that they major in. That’s because college is a time of learning and a time of change. As students go through their classes, they learn more about themselves and the things that interest them. As they learn these things, they discover that they might be interested in careers that differ from what they originally thought they wanted to do.
Because of this, many students are afraid to get their Bachelors Degrees from a niche school. For example, a student might think that she wants to study photography but she’ll go to a general college that has a photography program rather than going to a photography school. The thinking is that she can always change her mind at the general school and study something else. While that’s true, it sometimes means that the student misses out on the best photography education that she could have gotten.
What many students don’t realize is that a photography school doesn’t offer only one degree. For example, Brooks Institute photography school offers degrees in other visually creative fields such as film. Brooks Institute also has degrees in less visual areas of study such as journalism. As long as a student knows that a creative degree is the right degree, it’s perfectly acceptable to attend a creative school and switch majors during their education.
